I was asked recently if people are more open to paranormal phenomena and the possibilities than they use to be.
My answer is, definitely.
There are some possible reasons, such as the popularity of paranormal shows. Also, those of us middle-agers grew up in the 1970s, and cut our teeth on paranormal documentaries, TV and movies from The Exorcist to The Legend of Boggy Creek, from Kolchak: The Night Stalker to Bewitched. We tinkered with Ouija boards and called out for Bloody Mary in the mirror. Besides the morbid Victorian Era, it had been a long time since the unexplained was spoken about or sought out.
The discussion of paranormal is not taboo any longer which allows people to compare notes from alien contactee experiences to UFO sightings, strange encounters in the woods and grandma's ghostly figure at the foot of the bed.
Our population is also aging and the bigger questions of the universe are being pondered. The studies of ghosts and near-death experiences are of great interest to those of us a bit closer to the grave.
Admittedly, 15 years ago when I started earnestly investigating, I couldn't talk about my interest among folks or they would begin to look at me like I'd lost my mind. Now, even the most uptight people hear what I do and light up, asking lots of questions and being intrigued. It is no longer shameful to be curious about the universe and all its possibilities.
Projects like the Large Hadron Collider and the desire to find other dimensions/parallel worlds, physics newer explored arenas like string theory, and talk of sending people to Mars have fed our imaginations and our concerns. Just how big is our world?
Thankfully, the advent of the internet allowed us to find out what others are experiencing simultaneously. There is a common thread running through stories, that people are having more vivid travel-like dreams, feeling as if something is about to happen they cannot fathom. We are gaining consciousness as if we are awakening from an amnesia; recalling something we had forgotten for millennium.
Many report vivid and unusual dreams, new-found psychic abilities, and more frequent encounters with the unknown. Some say this is a sign we are ascending as a people to a new level of consciousness, but might it be the ability to talk to people and read articles from all around the world every day within minutes of their publishing their experiences? Might we have discovered the weave that runs through us when we didn't see it in our myopic little worlds pre-internet when your major experience in the day was the newspaper, your coworkers, and television? In fact, might television been the first big launch into collective consciousness?
There is also another very unusual possibility - an opening between the worlds. Here is an article that described it well - Ascension isn’t only a spiritual concept but is also a scientific process that utilizes the laws of nature to assist spiritual beings to evolve back to Creation in a multidimensional reality system, such as our time matrix. This process allows all souls to eventually evolve and ascend out of time and space to re-emerge with their higher identity of pure consciousness. However, if a soul becomes permanently disconnected to the Eternal Life current of Creation, it may not be able to return to Creation as a pure consciousness being.
I wrote about this in my book My Alien Encounters. I was uploaded with information that I sort of opened up in my mind and saw how the world once was, with other realms freely interacting with this physical one. At one point, the doorway was closed. From time to time, things from other realms come through to test us, see if we are accepting of things not of this physical realm. The human experiment has forgotten its past interactions. If we accept it, the portal will be reopened. If we do not, if we fight it, do not accept it, shun it, are afraid of it, it will close the physical off permanently and the implications shown to me are that our souls - will be trapped too!
So, the message in that is, next time you encounter ghosts, Bigfoot, UFOs, just don't panic. Be curious and be open.
Are we shifting collective consciousness? Hell, I think this is the first time we have had a collective consciousness on a global scale!
Sure, we had it in small wandering clans and tiny villages, even into big cities and churches, but man as a universally collective consciousness began with television and blossomed with the computer. What does a collective do when it gathers together? It works to make the group succeed.
I find that a rather enlightening realization.
I think it ebbs and flows. For example, the spiritualism movement between the 1840s to the 1920s.
