Thousands Of Human Bones Found In a Well

Wesley Shermantine and Loren Herzog were childhood chums, but in the 1980s and 1990s they were suspected of killing dozens of people in California. They were dubbed the "Speed Freak Killers." By a twist of fate that only California law would allow, Herzog got off on parole, but ended up committing suicide when he heard Shermantine was going to provide maps of where the bodies were located.

Article Investigators have been concentrating on a sealed well near a cattle ranch in Linden. So far they have found hundreds of human bone fragments, a purse, shoes, coats and a woman's ring in the 50-foot deep well. The searchers have also uncovered to separate single burial sites near San Andreas where they found the remains of Cyndi Vanderheiden, 25, and Chevelle Wheeler, 16. Vanderheiden vanished in 1998 and Wheeler in 1985, police said. Padilla told reporters that Shermantine's map includes another well near the one where investigators are now searching that could turn out to be another mass burial site.
